About the Position: Employing Agency: U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Army Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC) As one of the links in the overall mission of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is one of the most diverse engineering and scientific research organizations in the world consisting of seven specialized laboratories and combining all research and development (R&D;) capabilities of USACE into one organization. ERDC conducts R&D; in support of the Soldier, military installations around the world, and Corps' civil works mission, as well as for other federal agencies, state and municipal authorities, and the U.S. industry through innovative work and agreements. The ERDC vision is to be the world's premier engineering and environmental sciences organization. We strive to be the best in specialized areas and to solve problems that others are not attempting to tackle. Four of the ERDC laboratories are located at the headquarters site for ERDC in Vicksburg, MS. Those four laboratories are the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL), the Environmental Laboratory (EL), the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL), and the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL). This job announcement applies to all four of the Vicksburg site laboratories for the ERDC as well as the support staffs that function under the guidance of the ERDC Executive Office and Command Staff Division organizations also located in Vicksburg, MS. The R&D; work done at ERDC is focused on five primary technical areas to support the Army and USACE: 1) Warfighter Support - geospatial information; system development; operational support; force protection; and force projection and sustainment. 2) Installations - transformation; operations; and environmental issues. 3) Environmental - remediation and restoration; land planning, stewardship and management; threatened and endangered species; and cultural resources.4) Water Resources - infrastructure, water resources, environmental issues, and navigation; and flood control and storm damage reduction. 5) Information Technology - informatics; geospatial technologies; computational services; high performance computing applications This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project and this pay band includes the General Schedule grade equivalent to GS-05/11. The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
