Job Summary:

The Honey Bee Breeding, Genetics and Physiology Laboratory USDA ARS Service, Baton Rouge, LA will be hiring an experienced Biological Science Technician. The position will be at the GS-06/07 level. The mission of the Unit is to gain understanding of the natural defense mechanisms of honey bees to pests and pathogens and use this information to breed honey bees for enhanced hazard resistance through both traditional and marker assisted selection approaches. Strong candidates for the position will have (1) expertise in basic molecular manipulations of nucleic acids and proteins (2) familiarity and experience with a variety of laboratory techniques, data collection and data analysis, and 3) strong skills in the field of entomology (focusing on the honey bee and honey bee parasites) and microbiology. NOTE: Since the incumbent will be working closely with bees it is important applicants have no allergies to bee stings.
