Job Summary:
The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (Board) is an independent agency in the executive branch chartered with the responsibility of providing recommendations and advice to the President and the Secretary of Energy regarding public health and safety issues at Department of Energy (DOE) defense nuclear facilities. The Board reviews and evaluates the content and implementation of health and safety standards, as well as other requirements, relating to the design, construction, operation, and decommissioning of DOE's defense nuclear facilities to ensure that these activities are carried out in a manner that protects the public, workers, and the environment. As Deputy General Counsel, you will be a senior legal officer and advisor to the Board and will supervise the operations of the Office of the General Counsel. You will be responsible for conducting Board hearings and court litigation, reviewing Board documents for legal sufficiency, and enforcing the applicable sections of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (as amended), and other relevant statutes. As directed by the General Counsel, you will represent the Board before Congressional Committees in hearings on proposed legislation, in investigations, and in interactions with the press and the general public. In addition, under the direction of the General Counsel, you will be responsible for managing legislative matters and the Board's Ethics and Alternative Dispute Resolution programs.
