Who May Apply: All U.S. citizens that are current students pursuing a full 4-year course of study, on a full or half-time basis, in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or other related disciplines appropriate to the position. About the Position: This position is for an internship under the Pathways Internship Program as a Student Trainee (Natural Resources Specialist/Ranger) at the Mississippi River Project Office in Rock Island, IL. This is an excepted service appointment for an initial period expected to last for more than 1 year. Pathways Internship Program: The Pathways Internship Program is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program. It replaces the existing Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). The Internship Program provides students enrolled in a variety of educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. Veterans' preference applies to selection for positions in the Pathways Programs. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules. Interns may be eligible for noncompetitive conversion to a term or permanent position in the competitive service within 120 days of successful completion of the program. However, service in the Pathways Program confers no right to further employment. Location: The position is located across from the Rock Island District Headquarters which is in the Clock Tower Building on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Illinois. Rock Island is part of a metropolitan area known as the Quad-Cities. The Quad-Cities rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a total population of 400,000. The Quad-Cities is comprised of the cities of Rock Island and Moline/East Moline in Illinois, and Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa.
