The Deputy COS functions as a member of the senior leadership team reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and serves as a principal associate to the Chief of Staff. The Deputy COS works closely and collaboratively with executive leadership and all clinical services to advance strategic goals and provide high quality, efficient, and effective patient centered healthcare at GLA. GLA is a multi-divisional healthcare system based in Los Angeles, California spanning five counties (Kern, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura) and 12 sites providing comprehensive ambulatory and tertiary care to Veterans. GLA includes tertiary care, long term care and domiciliary beds as follows: 1) 262 acute hospital beds; 2) 296 skilled Community Living Center beds; 3) 66 non-acute hospital beds; 4) 296 domiciliary beds. Over 493,000 Veterans reside in GLA's primary service area. Approximately 84,000 unique Veterans were treated in FY11 with over 1.2 million outpatients served. GLA has affiliation agreements with two medical schools and numerous associated health programs. GLA is a training site for 55 ACGME approved medical residency programs (GLA sponsored; UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine; Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; USC Keck School of Medicine; Kern County Medical Center; and VACO Office of Academic Affiliations).
