Job Summary:

This is a temporary appointment for a Student Trainee (General Labor Worker) WG-3501-02, intended for summer hire intended to last only through the summer, Not To Exceed: 30 SEPTEMBER 2013. About the Position: This position is located in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Operations Division, Project Support Branch/Fort Mifflin Project of Construction and Labor Force at the Fort Mifflin Field Office in Philadelphia, PA. The Philadelphia District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was established in 1866 to manage the water resources of the 13,000 square-mile Delaware River Basin and the Atlantic Coast from New Jersey's Manasquan Inlet to the southern boundary of Delaware. Our mission areas include Military Construction, Navigation, Flood Control, Coastal Engineering, Planning, Emergency Management, Environmental Program and Support for Others work. This position is located in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Operations Division, Chesapeake City Project Office, Equipment/Construction Team. This position is located at the Chesapeake Project Office, in Chesapeake City, Maryland, which is situated on the banks of the historic Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal connects the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake Bay. The Army took control of this canal in 1919 and has been given the requirement to maintain all systems, bridges and property necessary for this fully functional waterway. Vessels passing through the Canal are as large as 1000 feet and are part of the major infrastructure of the northeast portion of the US. This Canal has been listed as one of the three busiest canals in the world. This position is located at the Chesapeake City Project Office situated in Cecil County, Maryland and New Castle County, Delaware approximately 6 miles south of Elkton, MD. The project was constructed in 1827 for commercial marine traffic connecting the Delaware and Chesapeake Bay. Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in the Department of Army and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Interns must: *Be a U.S. Citizen. *Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program *Complete their degree or certificate requirements *Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted. *Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and *Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations and/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
