Job Summary:
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Insects & Crop Genetics Research Unit located in Ames, IA, is seeking a student to provide computer support which will involve configuring and populating tools that serve genetic, genomic, and biochemical data (including, but not limited to, GBrowse, JBrowse, BioCyc and Intermine as well as custom tools). Activities will require use of programming in PHP, CSS, Perl, Javascript, HTML, and SQL. The position a Excepted Service appointment. The Internship Program of the Pathways Program is designed to serve as a developmental experience and in conjunction with formal education, to provide the incumbent with the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities for employment in a civil service career. As part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended in 1 year increments for a total of 8 years as long as the Intern meets the eligibility requirements of the Pathways Internship Program. Interns may be converted, without a break in service, to a TERM (time-limited), Career, or Career-Conditional (permanent) appointment upon graduation and completion of program requirements. There are no guarantees for extensions or conversions. The Intern is on a trail period while on the Pathways Internship appointment.
