Job Summary:

WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: Student Program Eligibles within the local commuting area (50 mile radius) of the Washington, D.C. Metro Area Wolf Trap National Park located in Vienna, Virginia, is the only national park dedicated to presenting the performing arts. No matter what your age or taste in shows, you'll find something you like onstage at Wolf Trap. From May through September, multiple amphitheaters in the park present performances such as musicals, dance, opera, jazz, and popular and country music. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts offers a wealth of natural and cultural resources to the community and to the nation. What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. What are the Eligibility Requirements? In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program: you must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the institution (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); and enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved home school; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2 or 4 year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum; and students must be in good academic standing according to their institution. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. The responsibilities of this position include contacting visitors and disseminating information. Other duties may include visitor management-related services such as traffic control, radio dispatching or back county patrols. This is a temporary summer appointment not to exceed 1 year. This appointment may be extended until the incumbent's education program requirements have been completed (as long as the incumbent continues to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program), at which time the individual may, at the Agency's discretion, be converted to a term or permanent appointment. There is no guarantee for conversion. Wolf Trap is located in Vienna, Virginia approximately twenty miles west of Washington, D.C. There is no public transportation or housing available. The hourly salary range for the GS-03 grade level is $13.00 to $16.90. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed outdoors in small, outdoor structures with open windows which result in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.
