Job Summary:
(a) Harness the Silicon Valley technology ecosystems to advance DoD missions. (b) Recruit top talent in the technology sector for military and civilian service, broker exchanges such as the Chief Information Officer's industry internship program, Secretary's Corporate Fellows Program and recruit for other positions and advisory roles in the DoD and the intelligence community. (c) Support DoD's partnership with In-Q-Tel and rapid acquisition activities by identifying promising emerging technologies that can be further evaluated for potential acquisition and investment. (d) Serve as a platform with modular office space and secure facilities for other DoD and Service components to "plug and play" as mission needs arise. (e) Serve as a "net" to catch DoD uniformed and civilian personnel who exit to the technology sector but who would be willing to serve in the Reserves or in other capacities. This position will be managed by the Department of the Navy's (DON) Office of the General Counsel (OGC). OGC consists of 718 civilian attorneys plus 29 uniformed Navy JAGs and Marine Corps Judge Advocates, and 198 support staff located throughout the United States and overseas and includes multiple grade levels. Approximately 300 attorneys are located in Washington D.C.; the remaining attorneys are located in 95 field offices throughout the country and abroad. OGC provides advice to the various components and activities that make up the Department of the Navy by offices attached to those components. Civilian Navy OGC attorneys help clients address legal concerns in virtually every area of the law related to business, including government contracts, public employment ethics, environmental concerns, personal and real property law, fiscal issues, and intellectual property law. The position is that of a general attorney to serve as Counsel to DIUx. The incumbent of this position will be a member of the DON Office of the General Counsel and will be under the general supervision of the General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, the Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, and the Counsel of the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Immediate supervision will be provided by the ONR Deputy Counsel. The Counsel is responsible for providing legal support throughout the full range DON OGC legal practice to DIUx clients.
