Job Summary:

The IHS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This position is located within the Portland Area Office, Portland, Oregon. The Portland Area Office provides access to health care for an estimated 150,000 AI/AN residents of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The Alaska Area Indian Health Service (IHS) works in conjunction with Alaska Native Tribes and Tribal Organizations (T/TO) to provide comprehensive health services to 143,078 Alaska Natives (Eskimos, Aleuts, and Indians). The California Area Indian Health Service provides the healthcare delivery system to the State of California, the home of the largest population of American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) in the country. According to the 2010 Census, California's Indian population was 362,801. California is home to 107 federally recognized tribes. The incumbent of this position serves as Human Resources Officer for the Western Region covering the California, Alaska, and Portland Areas. The incumbent will oversee human resources in providing a comprehensive range of human resource management services including management advisory functions, position classification, pay administration, recruitment and placement, labor-management/employee relations, employee benefits/payroll liaison/employee services, and organizational design.
