Job Summary:
Duty 1: Representational and Advisory Duties Represents OC-ALC management and provides legal advice on all matters relating to civilian personnel disciplinary actions, adverse actions, appeals and grievance hearings in various forums. Provides training and guidance to less experienced civilian and military attorney's in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate regarding these matters. Collects precedent on decisions and maintains the highest level of current expertise in all areas of federal employee and labor law. Represents the Oklahoma ALC, and in some instance, the Major Command (HQ AFMC) and/or the Department of the Air Force in the below paragraphed matters. The incumbents of this position are assigned the most complex and difficult matters requiring the utmost legal professional skills on the part of the incumbent. Extremely large amounts of money in the form of back pay and allowances, attorney fees, labor contract cost items (such as official government time), environmental differential pay, compensatory damages and actual damages, etc., are routinely involved. The decisions following from the various judges, commissioners, appeal boards and administrative judges are often precedential in nature having substantial impact on the entire federal service. In a majority of the cases handled by the incumbent, the opposing party is represented by experienced attorneys who specialize in federal labor and employment law. Represents the Air Force in meetings, negotiations, and hearings involving state and local officials concerning the application of or conflicts in state, local and federal laws. Acts as attorney in charge of presenting the Government's position and evidence during administrative hearings. These conflicts often involve difficult and complex legal issues, often with little or no legal precedent and, if necessary, is expected to investigate and obtain the information necessary to resolve all issues. May be required to present Department of the Air Force position at state proceedings.
