Job Summary:
The National Park Service (NPS) is looking for an individual with strong leadership and business skills and a proven track record in the hospitality management and/or recreation services field to serve as Chief of the Commercial Services Program. The NPS Commercial Services Program oversees concessions contracting, commercial business permitting, and leasing with businesses providing a wide range of services to visitors in our National Parks. Visitor services provided through concession contracts and permits including lodging facilities, campgrounds, restaurants, snack bars, marinas, gift shops, grocery and general merchandise outlets, boat rentals, tour boats and buses, outfitter and guide services and numerous other visitor service operations. The program administers 600 concessions contracts and 4,000 commercial business permits. In addition, the program administers several hundred leases. Visitor service businesses operating in national park units earn over $1 billion in annual revenue and return close to $77 million each year to the NPS in the form of franchise and permit fees. A recruitment incentive of up to 25 percent of the selectee's annual basic pay may be available to highly qualified applicants.
