Job Summary:
These positions will be located in Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Plains Area, Cropping Systems Research Laboratory in Lubbock, TX. This announcement will be used to fill two positions in the following research units: One position is in the Wind Erosion & Water Conservation Research Unit. Their mission is to conduct applied and fundamental research on the causes and consequences of wind-induced soil erosion, and the interactions of plants with the soil and aerial environments; and to develop wind erosion mitigation strategies and water management strategies that alleviate, delay, or moderate the impact of drought and thermal stress on crop production. The main purpose of this position is to provide clerical and administrative support to a unit of 8 research scientists. These activities include, but are not limited, to making travel arrangements to attend professional national and international meetings, assisting scientists in the submission of manuscripts to journals, preparing progress reports, research plans, case write-ups, and annual performance plans. Their research is related to the conservation of water and crop production in dry climates. One position is in the Cotton Production and Processing Research Unit. Their mission is to address future critical production, processing, and air quality issues facing U.S. crop production operations and processing facilities and to maximize producer returns, minimize processing costs, preserve quality, and enhance value of agricultural waste/byproducts. The main objective of this position is to provide clerical and administrative support to two research units comprised of 6 research scientists and 8-10 technical staff. Support activities include, but are not limited to, making travel arrangements to attend professional national and international meetings, timesheets, entry and upkeep of records associated with manuscripts into agency database(s), preparation of progress reports, research plans, case write-ups, and annual performance plans. Research associated with the two units includes 1) production and processing of cotton, 2) air quality, and 3) livestock immunology.
