As a Legal Assistant student intern in the Office of Chief Counsel, you will gain experience with the largest government law firm while you attend college. You will provide clerical support to the legal staff preparing and assembling documents, maintaining legal files and documents, receiving incoming correspondence, reviewing outgoing correspondence, making travel arrangements, arranging appointments and conferences, receiving telephone calls and visitors and other challenging work. Following the completion of educational requirements, you may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment. In order to be converted, you must have completed educational requirements and work requirements (640 hours prior to graduation, unless you meet one of the exceptions specified on the OPM Intern Program information page ). If you are converted after completion of internship, you will be placed into a Legal Assistant position which has promotion potential to the GS-06 level upon meeting time-in-grade requirements and demonstrating possession of the required competencies.
